This project studies remission from alcohol use disorders (AUDs) and how parental remission influences the home environment and alcohol use of adolescent and adult children. It aims to understand whether parental remission can reduce the likelihood of alcohol problems in children, despite genetic risks, and to explore the role of remission in intergenerational transmission of AUDs. The study uses family-based data from the Collaborative Study on the Genetics of Alcoholism (COGA), which recruits high-risk families. The project involves survival analysis and longitudinal methods to characterize AUD courses and remission types, identify demographic and behavioral factors, and assess familial and environmental influences. Results are expected to inform clinical practices encouraging recovery in parents and contribute to prevention and treatment efforts.
