Award for developing safe vertical MRI methodologies for children with cardiac devices to reduce RF heating risks.

Description

This project aims to develop methodologies to quantify RF heating of cardiac electronic devices during MRI in vertical MRI scanners. The goal is to make MRI technology fully accessible to children with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) by testing the hypothesis that vertical MRI scanners with a 90° rotated RF field generate less RF heating around epicardial leads, compared to traditional systems. The project involves simulation studies, development of pediatric patient models, and experimental validation to ensure safety and efficacy.
