Description

This NIH grant project hypothesizes that SARS-CoV-2 may contribute to the cascade leading to Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. It aims to conduct phenotyping and mechanistic studies in mouse models, utilizing novel imaging methodologies, to characterize neuropathological changes post-COVID-19 and uncover mechanistic links. The study will explore the relative contributions of genetic risk factors and COVID-19, effects of SARS-CoV-2 variants, and prior infections with other viruses like HSV-1 on AD/RD initiation and progression.
