NIH awarded $430,000 to Brigham and Women's Hospital for a project developing bioinformatics and computational biology methods to study Alzheimer's disease using multi-omics and microphysiological systems.

Description

The Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BCB) Core will develop and employ analytical methods to assess and align microphysiological systems (MPS) with human study data. The project aims to characterize and standardize all MPS models through multi-omics analysis, contextualize these profiles within Alzheimer’s disease and dementia (ADRD), and implement a precision medicine approach to link cell models to dysregulated processes and biomarkers. The project will create workflows for joint analysis of multi-modal data from MPS and postmortem brains, ensuring FAIR data principles, and expand analysis tools. The team will deeply characterize models from 100 genetic backgrounds, determine translational relevance, and assess therapeutic effects on molecular indicators of AD.
