Description

This project aims to examine the relationship between incarceration and dementia among persons aged 50 and older, with a focus on health disparities affecting persons of color and those with low socioeconomic status. By linking administrative data from national health care systems, the study will develop social risk factor profiles and multi-morbidity profiles associated with incarceration and dementia risk. The research will utilize a longitudinal cohort of veterans, including those reentering the community after incarceration, to identify pathways and precursors to dementia development. The findings will inform strategies to mitigate risks, improve transitional care, and reduce health disparities.
