NIH grant awarded to Oregon Health & Science University to study the role of pericyte-microglial interactions in diabetic post-stroke cognitive impairment, aiming to develop therapeutic agents to prevent PSCI.

Description

This NIH grant supports research investigating the mechanisms by which communication between pericytes and microglia under diabetic conditions contributes to post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI). The study aims to determine if endothelial-derived epoxyeicosatrienoates (EETs) acting on GPR39 receptors on pericytes protect against PSCI, and whether disruption of this signaling pathway in diabetes exacerbates inflammation and microglial activation.
