This project studies the role of transposable elements regulated by ADAR1 in neuroinflammation after ischemic stroke and aims to develop new anti-inflammatory therapies targeting ADAR1 to reduce brain injury and improve neurological outcomes.

Description

Stroke causes neuroinflammation, which plays a critical role in all stages of ischemic stroke-induced brain damage and tissue repair. Special transposable elements (TE) are major triggers of neuroinflammation following stroke. The activity of TEs is regulated by the enzyme adenosine deaminase acting on RNA (ADAR1). The project investigates the role of TE in ischemic brain injury and explores a novel therapy targeting ADAR1 to attenuate brain injury and improve neurological function. If successful, this could lead to a new anti-inflammatory therapy for stroke, a leading cause of death and disability.
