This NIH grant funds research to identify and study proteins secreted by the intestine that influence immune cells in adipose tissue during obesity, aiming to find new therapeutic targets for obesity-related metabolic diseases.

Description

The project aims to study how obesity impacts intestinal protein secretion and how these secreted proteins affect adipose tissue immune cells during obesity development. Using a Cre-inducible biotin-ligase BirA*G3 affinity tracking system in mice, the research will identify proteins trafficked from the intestine to adipose tissue, focusing on PlexinB2. The study will validate the role of these proteins in immune cell function and obesity-related metabolic diseases, with the goal of developing targeted therapeutics.
