This award supports research to develop and apply non-invasive optical monitoring techniques alongside biomarker and imaging assessments to improve understanding and protection of brain health during complex cardiac surgeries involving hypothermic circulatory arrest.

Description

The project aims to combine novel non-invasive optical tools for monitoring brain health during surgery with blood tests for injury biomarkers, medical imaging, and neurological and cognitive assessments to characterize brain protection strategies during aortic arch surgery involving hypothermic circulatory arrest and supplemental perfusion techniques, and evaluate their impact on neurologic injury and neurocognitive deficits.
