Project 2: BRCA1-dependent DNA End Resection and Regulation via the 53BP1 Axis

Recipient

University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, TX, United States

Award Amount

$527,550.00

Ceiling

$527,550.00

Awarded

August 05, 2025

Identifier

5P01CA275717-02

The award supports research to understand how DNA repair pathways are regulated by proteins 53BP1 and BRCA1, which has implications for cancer therapy development.

Description

This project aims to delineate novel mechanisms by which the opposing actions of 53BP1-CTC1-STN1-TEN1 (CST) and BRCA1-BARD1 regulate the activities of the long-range resection enzymes EXO1 and BLM-DNA2. The findings will shed light on the mechanistic principles of DNA double strand break repair pathway choice and guide the development of targeted cancer therapies for HDR-deficient cancers.
