Description
A prospective study to determine if perinatal HIV infection is associated with cardiac dysfunction and abnormal physical performance in children and young adults, identify mechanisms of subclinical cardiac dysfunction using proteomic profiling, and measure the effect of HIV status on longitudinal change in cardiac and physical function during adolescence. The study involves over 400 youth in western Kenya and includes echocardiograms, clinical assessments, walk testing, heart rate variability assessment, and biospecimen collection for proteomics.
