Development of a noninvasive, contrast-free ultrasound technique to quantitatively assess microvascular flow in peripheral arterial disease, enabling early diagnosis and treatment monitoring.
Description
This project aims to develop a low-cost, noninvasive ultrasound-based tool called Angio Flow Reactivity Analysis (AFRA) for imaging microvascular changes associated with peripheral arterial diseases (PAD). The technique will assess blood flow in the calf muscle without contrast agents, using ultrasound data processing methods such as coherent ensemble selection, clutter filtering, and background noise equalization. The long-term goal is early diagnosis, monitoring disease progression, and evaluating treatment response in PAD patients.
