A NIH-funded clinical research project to test the superiority of transcranial direct current stimulation combined with speech therapy over speech therapy alone for treating aphasia in post-stroke patients.

Description

This project aims to evaluate the efficacy of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) as an adjuvant to speech therapy for individuals with chronic post-stroke Broca’s aphasia. The study will compare active anodal tDCS (A-tDCS) versus sham tDCS (S-tDCS) in conjunction with auditory-visual speech therapy. It will utilize an adaptive Phase II/III design to determine the optimal dose of A-tDCS (1 mA vs. 2 mA) and assess the primary outcome of improvement in naming ability.
