This award funds research to identify and characterize healthy cognitive aging using biomarkers and neuroimaging, aiming to predict cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease early.

Description

The proposed study aims to incorporate new neuropathologic indices, neuroimaging, and blood biomarkers of Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and neurodegeneration, applying innovative statistical approaches to identify healthy cognitive aging profiles. Building on prior research, the study will identify healthy cognitive aging among autopsied individuals with detailed pathologic data and extend this approach to living persons. It will integrate biomarker and neuroimaging data with a cognitive age metric to develop criteria for predicting incident Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's dementia, facilitating early identification of high-risk individuals.
