A research grant awarded to study metabolic treatments for neurological mitochondrial disorders by investigating nutrient metabolism shifts due to mTOR inhibition.

Description

This project explores the hypothesis that inhibition of the mammalian Target of Rapamycin (mTOR) promotes a shift in nutrient metabolism away from carbohydrates and toward fats in mitochondrial disorders caused by dysfunction of Complex I of the Electron Transport Chain. The project aims to determine the role of nutrient metabolism in the onset and treatment of neurological mitochondrial disorders.
