Description
This project aims to develop a drug delivery system to extend the duration of action of FDA-approved opioid overdose antidotes (naloxone and nalmefene) to 24 hours or more. It focuses on creating opioid antagonist prodrugs that enable subcutaneous administration, prevent re-narcotization, avoid withdrawal symptoms, and use conjugation to serum protein transthyretin to facilitate rapid absorption and extended duration.
