Description

The project aims to confirm the role of mast cells in lung injury caused by chemical threat agents such as nitrogen mustard, chloropicrin, and formaldehyde. Using mast cell deficient mouse models and a novel human lung-on-a-chip model with incorporated mast cells, the study seeks to establish activation of mast cells as a common mechanism across various chemical classes linked with pulmonary toxicity. The findings could lead to the development of targeted therapeutic interventions.
