This NIH grant supports early-career investigators in aging and dementia research through pilot projects and mentorship, aiming to foster innovative research and improve health outcomes.

Description

The BU-SHARP Program Development (Pilot) Core will support innovative, small-scale research projects that generate preliminary findings or new pilot data for larger research efforts aligned with BU-SHARP’s three substantive research themes: (a) between and within-group differences by factors including rurality, and disability status in AD/ADRD onset, progression, and consequences; (b) individual and interpersonal social resources and mechanisms contributing to these patterns and their consequences for the well-being of Americans; and (c) effects of modifiable multilevel factors on AD/ADRD risk. The Core will fund 12 Emerging Scholars Pilot Projects supporting early-career investigators from fields such as demography, economics, sociology, epidemiology, and other population-based social sciences, particularly researchers from IDeA state institutions. It will also provide a structured Mentorship Program to prepare scholars for successful NIH R-series or K-series submissions within two years, including workshops, consultations, and technical assistance. The program aims to foster innovative research, mentor early-career investigators, and support projects toward peer-reviewed publications and larger NIH grants, ultimately enhancing the health of Americans.
