Description

The project aims to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying the function and regulation of cGMP-phosphodiesterases (PDE6) in rod and cone photoreceptor cells. PDE6 is essential for phototransduction and cell survival. Mutations in PDE6 or its chaperone AIPL1 cause severe retinal diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa, achromatopsia, and Leber congenital amaurosis. The research will focus on the folding and maturation of PDE6, particularly its interaction with the chaperone complex HSP90/AIPL1, to develop new therapeutic strategies.
