Award to University of Pennsylvania for research to improve end-of-life care and prognostication in patients with Lewy body disorders, including development of predictive models and quality measurement tools.
Description
This project aims to improve prognostication and end-of-life (EoL) care quality measurement in Lewy body Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders (ADRDs). The project will develop a risk prediction model for 6-month mortality using Medicare data, validated externally in a post-pandemic cohort. Additionally, it will create and validate a patient-centered EoL care quality instrument through qualitative research and factor analysis. The research will be conducted by Dr. Whitley Aamodt, a movement disorders specialist and neurodegenerative neurologist, under mentorship in epidemiology, biostatistics, qualitative research, and palliative care. The outcomes will provide essential knowledge to guide future interventions, improve care quality, and reduce Medicare spending at end-of-life.
