Description
The project aims to evaluate exposure to and body burden of selected heavy metals and flame retardants for solid waste workers in transfer stations and landfills in Florida, USA. The study will characterize levels of metals and flame retardants in blood and urine, assess inhalation exposures and their relationship to biological levels, and inform interventions to reduce exposures. This research addresses strategic objectives for reducing injuries and illnesses among contingent workers and supports goals for cancer, reproductive, cardiovascular, and other chronic disease prevention, as well as immune, infectious, dermal, and respiratory health.
