Description

The proposed research will examine recently discovered RNA modifications and molecular mechanisms that govern the lifetime of messenger RNA in bacterial cells. The knowledge thereby acquired is expected to be of value in understanding the regulatory processes that control bacterial pathogenesis and antibiotic sensitivity. Because of their broad applicability, the concepts and methods developed in the course of these studies have the potential to accelerate progress toward elucidating the mechanisms by which messenger RNA degradation impacts not only microbial infection but also human cell physiology.
