Description
This project tests the hypothesis that neutrophil hyperexocytosis in cystic fibrosis (CF) leads to the release of active myeloperoxidase (MPO) and generation of extracellular hypochlorous acid (HOCl), which damages airway epithelial cells and contributes to bronchiectasis. The study aims to understand the mechanisms of MPO release, HOCl production, and CF airway epithelial cytotoxicity to inform clinical and drug development research to prevent CF lung disease progression.
