This award funds a randomized clinical trial to evaluate a virtual world-based cardiac rehabilitation program aimed at improving cardiovascular health and adherence among cardiac patients. The study compares this innovative virtual intervention to traditional center-based rehabilitation, focusing on health outcomes and participation rates, with the intent to enhance accessibility and scalability of cardiac rehabilitation services.

Description

A multicenter randomized clinical trial to test the efficacy of a data-driven, behavioral theory-informed, virtual world-based cardiac rehabilitation intervention compared to center-based rehabilitation for improving cardiovascular health and participation adherence among cardiac patients. The project uses a hybrid type 1 implementation trial design with primary outcomes including the American Heart Association Life’s Essential 8 score and adherence rate, and secondary outcomes including adverse cardiovascular events, psychosocial measures, cost-effectiveness, and implementation outcomes. The goal is to increase accessibility and scalability of cardiac rehabilitation using virtual technology.
