Research project investigating neural circuit plasticity in alcohol dependent rats to understand withdrawal symptoms and develop better treatments.

Description

This project aims to study the role of posterior basolateral amygdala inputs to the ventral subiculum in alcohol dependent male and female rats, focusing on neural circuitry and neuroadaptations using advanced techniques such as ex vivo optogenetics, fiber photometry, and FISH RNAScope. The goal is to understand neural mechanisms responsible for negative affective symptoms during alcohol withdrawal and identify novel neural substrates for better treatments of alcohol use disorder.
