The award supports the development of focused ultrasound neuromodulation technology using phase shift nanoemulsions, with translational research in non-human primates to enable future human applications.

Description

This project aims to develop focused ultrasound (FUS) as a high-precision device-based pharmacological neuromodulation tool, evaluating its use in non-human primates as a translational step to humans. The research involves developing an ultrasound transducer to decrease focal spot size, integrating it into a FUS neuromodulation system, and developing open-source software for treatment planning. The project will explore two methods for focal pharmacological neuromodulation in monkeys, including safety assessments to pave the way for human translation.
