Description
The project aims to develop an animal model to test HDAC6 as a drug target. The project involves genetic deletion of HDAC6 in a mouse model. The goal is to improve fetal growth and survival by targeting HDAC6. Disruption of fetal growth results in severe consequences to human health, including increased fetal and neonatal lethality, as well as lifelong health problems in surviving individuals. Molecular mechanisms promoting fetal growth represent therapeutic approaches to prevent and/or treat fetal growth restriction. MAP3K4 and HDAC6 are key enzymes controlling fetal growth, and targeting these enzymes may represent methods to improve fetal growth and survival.
