The award supports research on how early life stress affects recovery from traumatic brain injury in adulthood, focusing on inflammation and potential therapeutic interventions.
Description
This project aims to determine if early life stress (ELS) during development limits the recovery trajectory after a traumatic brain injury (TBI) that occurs in adulthood. The study uses a rat model to investigate the role of ELS in increasing inflammation and neurological damage after TBI, and tests an NLRP3 inflammasome inhibitor as a potential therapeutic approach to reduce inflammation, prevent hippocampal pathology, and improve learning and memory.
