This award funds the Mouse Genome Database (MGD) project, a key resource for genetic and genomic data on laboratory mice to support human biology and disease research. It includes data curation, integration, and dissemination to aid scientists and researchers.
Description
The Mouse Genome Database (MGD) plays a critical role as a community knowledgebase for standardizing, integrating, and disseminating information about the laboratory mouse as a model system for investigating the genetic and genomic basis of human biology and disease. MGD supports three broad user groups: basic scientists, clinical researchers, and data scientists, contributing to the development of new tools and hypotheses for understanding the human genome and improving human health. During the project, MGD will curate and integrate genetic, genomic, variant, functional, phenotypic, and human disease model data, making these data freely available through web-based and programmatic interfaces. Core aims include maintaining the catalog of mouse genome features, serving as the authoritative source for mouse functional annotations, and cataloging mouse mutations and strains with their phenotype and disease associations. The project will also transition MGD's curation infrastructure into the knowledge commons platform developed by the Alliance of Genome Resources, supporting community engagement through documentation, tutorials, workshops, and social media.
