The award funds research to study Mycoplasma genitalium infection and treatment using advanced 3D cervical models to improve clinical guidelines and reproductive health outcomes.

Description

This project aims to generate robust experimental data to clarify Mycoplasma genitalium pathology, evaluate potential therapies, and inform more thorough and actionable clinical recommendations using a 3D organotypic cervical epithelium model. The research will investigate MG-induced cervical epithelial damage, compare infection progression of MG and Chlamydia trachomatis, and test if metronidazole and tinidazole arrest MG infection to improve MG testing and treatment guidelines and enhance reproductive health outcomes.
