Description
The research aims to develop pharmacomicrobiomics, studying drug-microbiota interactions that drive variable drug responses. The focus is on bacterial enzymes like β-glucuronidase (GUS) and their role in drug toxicity and efficacy, utilizing high-throughput primary cell culture platforms. The research includes two programs: one testing the hypothesis that gut microbiota contribute to variability in bacterial reactivation of drug-glucuronide conjugates, and another assessing tissue susceptibility to bacterial drug metabolism. This work aims to integrate bacterial drug metabolism into physiologically based pharmacokinetic models to improve prediction of drug side effects and efficacy.
