This K01 proposal aims to prepare Dr. Katharine Press Callahan for a career as an independent physician-scientist focusing on the ethical and social implications of genetic testing for critically ill neonates. The research will investigate how neonatologists and parents manage the uncertainty of genetic information, identify types of uncertainty perceived, assess its impact on counseling and understanding, and develop a communication tool to standardize and improve information sharing.
