This award funds research on genetic factors influencing Alzheimer's disease risk across diverse ancestry groups, focusing on African American, African, and Hispanic/Latino populations, using advanced genetic analysis methods.

Description

The genomics of Alzheimer Disease is complex and evidence to date suggests that different ancestry groups have distinct genetic factors that influence risk. In this project, multiple statistical analyses of generated genetic data in African American, African, and Hispanic/Latino populations will be performed to identify genetic factors distinct within those groups. New methods for identifying regulatory elements and leveraging admixed chromosomes will be developed and applied. Results will be summarized through polygenic and pathway analyses to identify specific molecular mechanisms that harbor genetic variants influencing Alzheimer risk in each population.
