Multimodal analysis and therapeutic targeting of aberrant nucleocytoplasmic compartmentalization in FUS-related neurodegenerative disease

**Recipient:** UNIV OF MASSACHUSETTS MED SCH WORCESTER

**Award Amount:** $1,123,020.00
**Ceiling:** $1,123,020.00

**Awarded:** September 14, 2026

**Identifier:** 2R01NS108769-06A1

This award supports research on the role of FUS mutations in neurodegenerative diseases ALS and FTD, focusing on nucleocytoplasmic transport disruption and therapeutic targeting of protein kinase C.

### Description

FUS is a critical, multifunctional RNA-binding protein associated with ALS and FTD. The project aims to investigate how FUS mutations disrupt nucleocytoplasmic transport and RNA processing using advanced microscopy, biochemical, structural, and genomic technologies in human and mouse models. The study will also explore therapeutic targeting of protein kinase C to mitigate FUS dysfunction.
