Description
This project aims to investigate the protective effects of melatonin against antibiotic-induced kidney injury through mechanistic and clinical studies. It includes in vitro experiments on human renal proximal tubule cells and a randomized clinical trial with 300 hospitalized patients prescribed vancomycin and piperacillin-tazobactam. The study tests the hypothesis that melatonin reduces antibiotic-associated acute kidney injury (AKI) by activating NRF2 and restoring mitochondrial function.
