Research Consultation Services Core

This award funds the Research Consultation Services Core at New York University School of Medicine to advance community-led Type 2 Diabetes equity research by providing expert consultations on research methods and frameworks focused on health equity and community engagement.

Description

The Research Consultation Services (RCS) Core aims to support the vision of the National CEDER to foster and advance community-led and –informed Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) equity research by providing expert consultations on research methods, frameworks, and approaches. The core is informed by health equity and community engagement models, focusing on structural and social determinants of T2D. The core will complement the Stakeholder Engagement Studio Core by providing streamlined access to faculty and community expertise in research methodologies that promote equity in T2D research. It will offer expertise in intersectionality frameworks, structural racism, implementation science, health equity metrics, life course methodology, mixed methods, pragmatic trials, population health, system dynamics models, and ethical considerations. The RCS will operate through three collaborative pillars: Community Engagement Frameworks and Approaches (CEFA), Social and Structural Determinants and Translational Research Methods (STRM), and Ethical Engagement & Dissemination in Diverse Populations (EDD). Goals include refining a research consultation model, supporting stakeholder engagement, evaluating impact, and disseminating tools and lessons learned. The project is co-led by Drs. Earle Chambers and Carmen Isasi, and Ms. Chris Norwood, leveraging resources across NIH/NIDDK-funded centers.
