Description

This project explores a pathway where nutrients in high-fat foods are metabolized by gut microbes to generate trimethylamine (TMA), which is further processed by the host enzyme FMO3 to produce TMAO. Pharmacologic inhibition of the microbial enzyme CutC/D protects mice from high-fat diet-related metabolic disturbances and reorganizes host circadian control of lipid metabolism, olfactory perception, and gut microbial ecology. The research aims to uncover a diet-microbe-derived zeitgeber, potentially leading to novel therapeutic strategies for circadian-related diseases.
