Award to Yale University for research on generating functional parathyroid-like cells from iPSCs to develop transplantable parathyroid tissue for hypoparathyroidism treatment.

Description

The project aims to generate functional parathyroid-like cells from human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) through directed differentiation. The work involves guiding iPSCs through stages of definitive endoderm, anterior foregut endoderm, and pharyngeal endoderm. The project will assess expression of parathyroid-specific markers and calcium-responsive PTH secretion. The project is enabled by Yale University's facilities and interdisciplinary supervision. The ultimate goal is to provide an autologous source of transplantable, functional parathyroid tissue to restore calcium homeostasis in individuals with hypoparathyroidism.
