Description

The goal of the Ultrastructural Assessment and Human Tissue Core is to maximize scientific progress and productivity of the PPG investigators by providing essential services. The primary functions include tissue clearing and ultrastructural imaging, procurement of normal and diseased human tissues (hearts and stellate ganglia), and molecular biology. The core will support all three projects of the PPG, with close coordination with Core B, the Functional Assessment and Instrumentation Core. The infrastructure allows for obtaining diseased hearts from orthotopic transplant patients and normal hearts rejected for transplant, as well as stellate ganglia from patients with cardiomyopathy and without cardiopulmonary disease. Centralizing tissue procurement will streamline protocols, reduce costs, and increase productivity. Tissue clearing from pigs and humans will be optimized through batching. The core aims to provide high-resolution imaging and tissue processing services to ensure project success.
