Description
This research project will integrate epidemiologic, clinical, and genomic data to characterize HIV-mediated transmission and evolution of rifampin-resistant or multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (RR/MDR-TB) in the Western Cape Province, South Africa. The project involves analysis of large clinical cohorts, molecular epidemiology analysis and modeling, next-generation sequencing techniques, and management of prospective clinical cohorts to examine how transmitted and acquired TB drug resistance varies over a twelve-year period among people living with and without HIV, and how TB drug-resistance mutations evolve during treatment.
