Description
This project aims to develop a catheter hub disinfection device using a photoinitiated S-nitrosothiol based nitric oxide (NO) release polymer that provides continuous therapeutic NO levels at the catheter interface. The device will incorporate a NO donor covalently bonded to a polymer with side glowing fiber optics for controllable, long-term NO release, offering broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties and reducing thrombosis by inhibiting platelet adhesion and activation. The device is applicable to various catheter types, with a focus on long-term intravascular catheters. Successful development will enable early clinical trials and the creation of advanced devices to prevent infections and thrombosis, improving patient safety.
