A research grant awarded to study the kidney-brain axis in children with severe malaria to improve survival and neurodevelopmental outcomes by identifying biological mechanisms and modifiable pathways.

Description

This study aims to improve survival of children with acute kidney injury (AKI) and identify interventions that promote optimal neurodevelopmental outcomes. It will define biological mechanisms linking kidney injury to brain dysfunction and identify modifiable pathways to inform interventions that improve recovery and long-term outcomes in children with AKI, using severe malaria as a model.
