The award supports research on the hormonal and neural mechanisms of gut-brain communication affecting feeding behavior and obesity, specifically how carbohydrate intake influences hypothalamic feeding circuits and how obesity disrupts these processes.
Description
This project aims to elucidate the hormonal and neural mechanisms underlying gut-brain communication related to carbohydrate intake and obesity. It focuses on understanding how carbohydrate-rich diets modulate satiation via rapid gut-brain communication in normal weight and obese animals, investigating the role of rapid post-ingestive hormone release from enteroendocrine cells in driving carbohydrate-mediated AgRP neuron inhibition, and how obesity alters these pathways.
