This award funds the NHGRI Embryonic Stem Cell and Transgenic Mouse Core, which provides advanced services for generating genetically engineered mice using CRISPR/Cas and other methods, supporting NHGRI investigators in genetic research.

Description

The NHGRI Embryonic Stem Cell and Transgenic Mouse Core provides a shared service to NHGRI investigators specializing in generating genetically engineered mice via conventional transgenesis, ES cell targeting, and primarily genome editing using CRISPR/Cas. The Core breeds 90% of animals in-house, utilizes several background strains, maintains a colony of Cre expressing and other transgenic mice, cryopreserves important mice, and supports investigators in gene targeting/editing and transgenesis. Services include teratoma analysis, embryo harvest, fibroblast isolation, and embryonic stem cell generation. The Core is at the forefront of transgenic production using CRISPR/Cas and has generated targeted transgenics for hundreds of constructs since 2013.
