Description

This NIH-funded project aims to investigate the phenotypic effects of lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] as an independent risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). The study will assemble a large, diverse consortium with validated Lp(a) measures and genotypic data, including cohorts from African, Polynesian, and South American populations. The research will leverage statistical genetics to develop polygenic risk scores (PRS) for Lp(a) and conduct causal inference studies to understand broad phenotypic impacts, both anticipated and unanticipated. The goal is to enhance understanding of Lp(a)'s role across different populations and inform therapeutic strategies.
