This award supports innovative nutrition and obesity research at UAB, focusing on new investigators and novel ideas, with funding, mentorship, and a rigorous review process to foster paradigm shifts in the field.
Description
The goal of the Pilot & Feasibility and Named New Investigator (P&F-NNI) Program in the UAB Nutrition and Obesity Research Center (NORC) is to foster an environment for the development and testing of new research ideas in nutrition- and obesity-related research. These new concepts may come from within the NORC community or from non-NORC investigators across UAB’s campus. The program emphasizes funding junior investigators and eligible senior investigators without prior nutrition- and obesity-related research funding. Selection involves a two-step process: initial advertisement and abstract submission, followed by full application review and scoring using NIH criteria. Awardees receive funding, mentoring, administrative support, and grantsmanship advice. They are required to present their results at the NORC Scientific Seminar. The program aims to enable paradigm shifts in nutrition and obesity research for better prevention and treatment strategies.
