This NIH-funded project tests a behavioral intervention to improve self-regulation and social support for emerging adults with Type 1 Diabetes, aiming to enhance diabetes management and reduce distress through phone and text-based coaching.

Description

The project aims to test the efficacy of a newly developed intervention (FAMS-T1D) that modifies the FAMS program originally designed for type 2 diabetes, to improve self-regulation and social support, thereby enhancing T1D management during emerging adulthood (ages 18-24). The intervention includes phone-based coaching, text messaging to patients, and text messaging to support persons, aiming to improve blood glucose control, self-management, and reduce diabetes distress. The study involves 280 emerging adults and their support persons across two sites, with assessments at baseline, 6, 9, and 12 months.
