A Veterans Affairs funded project studying post-COVID neurocognitive dysfunction through longitudinal cognitive assessments, biomarker analysis, and advanced imaging to understand mechanisms and predictors of neurological injury from COVID-19.

Description

Neurologic and mental health complications are among the most common post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 infection. This project aims to leverage a well-characterized cohort of Veterans with and without COVID-19 diagnosis to administer serial neuropsychological testing over up to three years to better characterize these complications and to establish whether antiviral therapy is preventive of cognitive impairment. Blood biomarkers of brain damage and advanced imaging will also be studied to determine their predictive and explanatory value for neurocognitive changes.
