Research project investigating epigenetic mechanisms linking vascular risk factors to Alzheimer's disease and related dementias in older White and Black persons using blood and brain 5-hydroxymethylcytosine data.
Description
This project addresses an important research priority in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, focusing on epigenetic mechanisms linking vascular risk factors to clinical and pathological phenotypes in older White and Black persons. The study will leverage resources from community-based cohort studies, including blood specimens, clinical data, and postmortem neuropathologic data, to generate genome-wide 5hmC scores in serum and brain tissues, aiming to distinguish between persons with and without dementia and to understand the biological mechanisms involved.
