Description

This project aims to develop physiological biomarkers to identify mild hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) infants who need treatment, using a wavelet neurovascular bundle analytical system to measure neurovascular coupling and regional oxygen consumption in real time. The study will enroll 100 neonates with mild HIE, following them for two years to assess developmental outcomes. The infrastructure includes a multidisciplinary team and advanced imaging facilities at Parkland Hospital. Expected outcomes include the development of neuroimaging and neurophysiological assessments for mild HIE and improved stratification via multi-modal assessments, potentially leading to a paradigm shift in early detection and targeted intervention for mild HIE.
